Yakisugi is a traditional Japanese method of wood preservation. Here at Oak and Wood we use Douglas Fir. The timber is either slightly or heavy burnt and then stained to your choice of colour.

By slightly charring the surface of the wood without combusting the whole piece, the wood becomes water-proof through the carbonisation and is thus more durable. It also protects against insects, as well as making it fire retardant.

This product is made to order so please expect a three week turn around time.
